Christopher Place offers assessments and a range of programmes for children under five with hearing impairment or delay in speech, language and communication. All our programmes combine therapy with nursery teaching and each child will learn both in small groups and in one-to-one sessions.
Our services include:
On your child's first visit to us, we will assess their needs thoroughly, and where necessary we combine the skills of a Paediatric Speech and Language Therapist, a Paediatric Occupational Therapist and a Chartered Psychologist.
The Centre works in partnership with home and nursery schools to ensure that the foundations of learning and self-esteem are established well before the age of five, when a child enters mainstream school. Opportunities are offered for children to attend the nursery sessions part-time, while integrating into a local setting, when appropriate.
This is a programme specifically designed for children who are not developmentally ready for a structured nursery environment. The programme intersperses adult-directed activities with child-focused activities and aims to prepare speech and language impaired children for integration into a mainstream nursery.
This is offered for children of 18 months to 2 ½ years who are hearing impaired. The sessions are held between 1.30-3.30pm on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Parents have the opportunity to meet each other while their toddlers enjoy a programme that facilitates their early language development.
This group builds on the experiences of Little Toddlers for children from 2 ½ to just over 3 years. The sessions are held between 9.30-12 noon Mondays to Fridays.
These nursery sessions are specifically designed to support children with complex needs and delayed development.
A high staff:child ratio which includes the speech and language therapist and the occupational therapist within a rich learning environment allows children to make faster progress.
Our Therapy Clinic provides:
Baby Beginners provides support, advice and guidance to parents of newly-diagnosed deaf babies and toddlers. Our play sessions develop early communication and we explain how you can integrate this into your child's home routine.
We offer an assessment for children and families who live great distances from the Centre. These assessments can be booked in the usual way.
